About BioGas

To understand biogas, it is important to understand the process by which it is derived.

Anaerobic digestion is the microbiological breakdown of organic material in an oxygen-free environment. As bacteria consume the organic material contained in the digester, they excrete methane, which is the primary component of biogas.

Biogas is a combustible, natural gas by-product of anaerobic digestion. It is primarily composed of methane (60%) and carbon dioxide (40%). Once produced, biogas can be burned in a combustion engine to produce electricity and heat
