Wastewater Plants

Wastewater treatment plants offer an ideal setting for accepting food waste.
Adding new or expanding existing anaerobic digestion facilities offers many benefits:
  • Renewable energy production:  Food waste has a much greater gas potential than biosolids.
  • Climate change mitigation:  food waste creates methane in landfills.  This gas is now being captured as part of the anaerobic digestion process at the WWTP.
  • Diversion opportunities for municipalities:  increasingly regulations demand a diversion of organics away from landfills.  The ability to accept this waste stream addresses this mandate and offers relief to municipalities.
  • Economic benefits:  The ability to accept food and other organic wastes creates additional revenues from tipping fees for the WWTP.  Additionally, savings can be realized through the generation of renewable energies that can be used onsite or sold.
  • Those facilities that already have electric generators in place, can increase their energy
production significantly by adding facilities to accommodate the new waste stream.
